How to find out  if your website is dangerous for visitors

If your website is infected, contains dangerous iframes or similar things Google will often show a warning in the search results and you will loose the most visitors. It´s also possible that your site will not be shown in the search results anymore.

Besides this the most security software warns if  there are pishing links on a website. The most Internet user don´t  visit such sites a second time.

Therefore as webmaster you should always check the status of your website.Google indexed sites can be checked e.g. with site:mysite.com. This will show  your indexed sites. Use also Google webmastertools to find out more about the status of your site.

Check also the source code of your website  if there are any strange thinks like unknown links, images or downloads etc.

Check the .htaccess for unknown redirects, the temp folder and the files in your directories on your server for changed and unknown files. If your site is infected you should delete all these things, use a clean backup to restore your site or install fresh.

If your site was hacked you need to change all your passwords too.

Don´t forget to check also your database for unknown code, images and links.

Are your chmod settings okay ? Normally directories have 755 and files 644.If you don´t need permanent 777 or 666 for some files change it back after a successful installation.Delete outdated files e.g. installations files should be deleted or renamed because they are a security risk.
